Won't wear any other shoe, but this version is not quite as comfortable as the older ones. Could do with a bit more cushioning. In saying that, the air structure triax is the best shoe I've ever worn and is fan Continue reading...
I bought these in June 2006 to replace an ageing Adidas pair and these are head and shoulders above anything else I've run in, although I've never paid over £60 for a pair of running shoes before. As a relativ Continue reading...
A good shoe for road work but not ideally suited for summer footpaths. The shoes are good for letting the feet breath maintaining comfort throughout the run. Well balanced in their support of the foot. Continue reading...
I'm onto my second pair now, and I'll probably buy my third if they are still on sale when these start to show their age. Continue reading...

Hi,

I've been happily using the Nike Air Structure Triax for some time now but they are approaching the end of their life. Nike in the infinite wisdom have released a new 2005 model of the shoe and it is impossible to find the 2004 model in my size (9!). Does anyone now if the 2005 is a direct replacement for the 2004? In other words if the 2004 worked perfectly for me, will the 2005 be just as good for me?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Cheers,

Jason

I don't know about the Structure Triax, but generally Nike tend to just change the colour scheme and design and re-issue the same old shoes year after year. I've been through loads of re-issues of Air Pegasus and I've never noticed a difference.

Bit confused about which versions you are referring to.

The very new version is reviewed in this month's Runners World, although it does say the men's version is not released until January (so that makes it the 2006 model). If I remember correctly it said there have been some small changes - it has better forefoot cushioning, and a little more stability.

But if you are talking about the even older model with the big, 3/4 length medial post and no soft crash pad on the outside of the heel, then yes that was very significantly different from the current models.

Hi Jason,

Like you I have used the Triax, I found the latest white/blue range perfect, stopped my shin splints over a period of time. Mine needed changing (9 months)- I got the latest red/white/silver version.

They are different, much firmer and seem heavier. The outside of my shins became very sore at first and I found I was stopping to stretch on runs I would normally sail through.

They are getting better but I may give up with them if they don't ease up soon.I tend to alternate now between the two pairs.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards
Steve

Hi Steve and everyone else,

Thanks for the info. Having done a bit more reading around the subject I have held off making this purchase until I get the time to visit a quality running shop where I can be confident of getting the correct shoe. I think this is the only safe way forward when your favourite shoe is tinkered with by the well meaning manufacturer....

Cheers,

Jason

The shoe in RW at the moment is the ladies version - the men's is completely different from both the women's and the previous Structure Triax.

I bought the blue and white version of the Structure 8 in desparation 10 days before this year's FLM because I was having trouble with my current running shoes and I'd had no problems with Nikes before, and had had a great pair of Structures in the past. Although I did the FLM successfully in them with no problems, I also found them much firmer than I was expecting and developed problems with the outside of my shins during the summer. I hope this wasn't caused by the shoes but it has made me wary of getting Structures in the future.
