Soft heel |
Saucony has enhanced the cushioning ability with the introduction of a ProGrid insert into the heel, while the brand's softest midsole foam – called Super Rebound Compound, or SRC – is introduced into the same area. The upper, meanwhile, benefits from a lighter and more breathable mesh.
The Phoenix 4 aims to offer good cushioning, light support and a smooth ride at a keen price and, according to our testers, it pulls it off. The updated shock-absorbing features were noticed, with both male and female runners rating the cushioning as excellent, while the light weight makes it a fast-feeling shoe.
Our wear-testers say: "I was initially sceptical given the soft heel and bouncy ride, but once I got used to
this they were very comfortable and felt quite smooth
and fast." - Roger Cripps
