First aid provision at races by little gray haired lady

What is the generally expected norm of first aid provision at races? I ran my first fell race yesterday, and at the end was asked, as seemingly the only nurse or doctor present to patch up a runner who had fallen badly, cutting his head and knee

considerably and I started looking round for a shop that was open - no luck, lights off, 'closed' signs on the doors, not a soul in sight.Bugger.Thankfully (and convenienly) there was a tiny first aid/X-rays/weird hospital shed unit thing about a mile away

I am sure I read in the pages of RW about bandages that have been soaked in some sort of coolant gel and are meant to be the new thing in first aid. My mum is desperate to get hold of some but I cannot find the info. Can anyone out there help

that they cannot provide the First Aid cover they promised us months ago. At short notice St Johns can't help. What can we do? Do we have to have First Aid cover or would we be OK just with plenty of Marshalls you may get away with qualified first aiders?? If you

Runner's First Aid box

shoe box and chucked them in with a large tub of Vaseline, nail clippers and band aids... Now I have a kind of 'runner's' first aid kit. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for anything else that might be worth adding to it? Gonna leave
