How to improve on speed

My aim is to run under 25 mins for a 5km race but i cant seem to get lower than 27. Is there anything i can do to improve my fitness. I have recently run a half marathon and am hoping that this will help me but am not that sure.ThanksHiten running

Heart Beat and Improvement
Trying to understand if I'm not over doing it by Joe Ragnar

and if I do manage to run to the top, I have to walk home. The thing is, I'm also looking to improve my vo2 max, as I have a fitness test in five weeks time which includes a "beep" test. I have to get up to level 8. Would it therefore be a good idea

Frustration at lack of improvement
Feeling exhausted and breathless after a few minuites by Goldfinch13

for the exhaustion I feel within minutes of setting off. I NEVER feel as though I am getting enough oxygen. But it is this inability to improve that is doing my head in. One month I can be running for 40 minutes or more, feeling OK although it is never never easy
