Why don't you just follow the plan in terms of mileage but do the runs at the speed you are comfortable with

Thanks Helen, I have been thinking, and might leave doing a Hm for a bit, or maybe run/walk one. i have a 10k planned on the 31st,so might just follow a 10k plan until tyen and see how im going. I am going to take a look now I have had a look at the smartcpach, but think that that will be more useful once ive done a 'proper' race.

I decided to go for a run last night after not doing much since Friday (rest sat, 1.5 mile Sun due to heat, Zumba Mon and busy Tuesday) I stopped a few times (to speak to brother and pick up wages from work!-so stopped the Garmin but only for about 10 min altogether) but did 7 miles in around 1hour 28 The plan has you doing 7 miles in 86 as an easy run, and considering I walked half a mile up hill because it was raining sooo heavily I thought that was ok.I think that this plan may be possible (or at least close to the times) for me now, and am pleased that I did the first 5k in 33.40 which involved jumping over 12 stiles!

Hi,id like some advice as to whether this is a good plan for my first half marathon (hopefully at the beginning of October). I am a beginner (started running in January, on and off and have been running regularly for 8 weeks). I am an 18 year old female who has always been quite active. I hope to do a marathon next year. I did my first race in years 2 weeks ago (6 miles fell race, several steep hills and took me 1.14.03, I felt like I could do more at the end )I found this plan http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/racing/rws-garmin-ready-half-marathon-schedule-sub-215/3294.html and started this week. I did the intervals on Tuesday but was unable to run Thursday so went to the gym yesterday and did the 3 mile run on the treadmill (I thought it was supposed to be in 32 mins this week, which is the steady pace) I did it in 31.50 but it didnt feel steady, but almost race pace. Do you think that this plan will be too difficult?I live in a valley in the middle of nowhere so everywhere I run is hilly. When I have timed myself running 1 mile continuously, it has been around 9.15-9.30 when running steadily, I can keep that pace for a couple of miles or so on the flat. Thanks, let me know if you need any more info. p.s. sorry about the spelling in the title!

I'm no expert, I've only got one half under the belt, but I think we might be a similar pace. My 10k pb is 66, so if the fell race was hillier, that might be about where you are. For reference, my first half was 2:37. In which case, I'd have said following a 2:15 half pace might just be pushing it a bit. Not that aiming to go faster is a bad thing, but it might be better to get round your first half, and improve from there. if I were you, I would use the distances from the plan, but worry less about sticking to the paces, especially if you felt that what should be a steady pace was more race pace. I would think it more important to get the miles in the legs than stick to the times. Maybe try the smartcoach and plug your pace into that and see what it thinks your training paces should be for a slow, easy, steady and fast runs.
