Adidas Star Racer £69.99
Weight 215g
Evaluation Adidass lighter racers have always been very wearable with a fairly relaxed, wide fit and good cushioning. The Star Racer replaces the great-value perennial, the Concerto, but its £20 more expensive and 20g heavier. The midsole ride is soft, smooth and similar to that of the Concerto, with the addition of a rearfoot Adiprene cushioning insert, but the main difference is in the upper. This is like a mesh sock held snug in the midfoot and forefoot by a clever lacing system. It produces a comfortable, airy ride that feels a little like running in bare feet, but unless you really want the airiness and the triathlon-style lacing system, youd be better off with a shoe called the Neftanga. That was Adidass flagship racer last year, and its still in line. It has an exceptionally cushioned and responsive midsole ride, and its the same weight and price as the Star Racer.
