Asics Gel DS Racer £70
Posted:
15 June 2000
Weight
255g
Evaluation
Sometimes in and sometimes out of the Asics UK range, the DS Racer is now in its fifth incarnation. Asics has made room for it by dropping the 200g Gel Magic Racer, which leaves only the DS Racer and the 225g
Gel Tiger Paw
in its racing repertoire. Fortunately theyre both great shoes. The DS Racer is particularly versatile. It sits low to the ground, so its nicely responsive, but it has good resilient cushioning from heel-strike right through to the forefoot. Its pretty stable too, with a two-thirds-length medial post, a good heel counter and a decent midfoot shank. The lightest, most efficient runners would find it a good half-marathon or even marathon shoe, but its also an ideal first racing shoe for short distances, particularly if youre a mild overpronator.
