Evaluation Avia returned to the UK marketplace 18 months ago with shoes priced so well that you wondered what the catch was. There wasn’t one – though now the shoes have moved to more realistic price levels. That means that while you used to get a double cantilever cushioning system for £50, now, as in the 257, you get a single one.
The reality is that the 257 is a perfectly serviceable shoe – not heavy, by no means stiff, reasonably supportive for a cushioned shoe, especially through the midfoot – but you wouldn’t go out of your way to find it. And as Avia is currently a small company with limited distribution, you probably would have to go out of your way.
In short The 257 is fine, but basic. Against other budget cushioned shoes, it’s not going to worry brands such as Mizuno, Asics or Nike.
