Brooks Dyad £70

Evaluation Look at the Dyad from the bottom, and you’d be forgiven for thinking it was another of the broad-based, ultra-stable, well-cushioned trainers that Brooks is renowned for. Of course, you’d still be partly right. The Dyad does have the straight-lasted shape and thick medial side consistent with a motion control shoe, but it lacks one vital element – a second density in the midsole. That’s because Brooks is aiming the Dyad at runners who like extra midsole cushioning and support, but who don’t necessarily need the added stability a second midsole density provides.
With the shape and midsole fullness of a big-guy shoe, it certainly addresses the needs of larger runners who don’t want added stability – although most big runners do. While it doesn’t come with the stability of a traditional motion control shoe, you do get plenty of cushioning from the Substance 257 (a more resilient foam than EVA) midsole and forefoot, and rearfoot Hydroflow units. This makes for a pretty plush, relaxed ride.
In short Some of our weartesters were confused by the lack of a second density in the midsole, but if you’re a big runner who doesn’t need much extra stability, the Dyad is worth a look.
