Evaluation French brand Decathlon is the fourth-largest sports retailer in the world, and has three superstores in the UK – in London, Stockport and Nottingham. Domyos is the firm’s own brand of fitness wear, and the TRKAs are its flagship running shoe.
When you’re food shopping, you expect the store’s own products to be budget alternatives to big brand names. At £56, though, the TRKAs are in direct competition with some big hitters – the £60 Nike Air Pegasus for one.
Like name-brands, Decathlon has its own cushioning technology: the Circular System. This is a hole cut up through the middle of the rearfoot, at the top of which sits a PU disc. The theory is that your heel is suspended so that there is less impact to it on foot-strike.
On the run, the TRKA offers a firm, somewhat stiff ride, and it does feel heavy. But the firmness also means that it feels reasonably stable, and the one-piece upper is supportive and comfortable.
In short If you’re a heavier, stability-oriented neutral runner who prefers a firm ride, it could be worth trying on a pair.
