Etonic Streetfighter SC £65

Posted: 22 January 2004

Evaluation Etonic is a classic American brand that developed a loyal following among British runners looking for sturdy, supportive shoes in the 1980s and early 1990s. Unfortunately, it didn't really have enough fans and disappeared from the UK market a few years ago.
Now, though, it's back with a pretty comprehensive model line-up, thanks to new UK distributor. The old Etonic traits of a broad base of support combined with plenty of stability and cushioning are all in evidence with the Streetfighter SC.
The rearfoot contains Etonic's Stable Air cushioning system, along with an insole containing a gel pad and a softer wedge of EVA in the forefoot. This all means that the Streetfighter SC offers a comfortable ride. It's not the plushest shoe available, and lighter runners may find it too firm. Etonic, though, has always held appeal for big runners and they're likely to appreciate the SC's midsole.
The SC's real strength is its stability. Its broad, almost straight, last makes for an incredibly stable base, and a weight-spreading rearfoot plate and big medial post means the Streetfighter SC feels very secure on the run.
In short This new Etonic won't set the world alight, but if you're looking for a hardwearing, stable and cushioned shoe then seek out the SC for a trial run. Big runners, who need lots of stability and durability, especially should give it a go.
