This model may still be available on clearance. But we've reviewed a newer version since we published this.
Filas figures suggest that the Fila Racer is the best-selling racing shoe in its (admittedly small) market. We wouldnt be too surprised: its a great shoe. Its appeal is mostly due to its well-balanced midsole. The rearfoot provides a good cushioning balance (not so soft that it bottoms out on impact; not so firm that it feels hard); and the forefoot is springy, smooth and fast because it contains Filas carbon-graphite plate for cushioning and flexibility.
The Racer Plus sensibly keeps the successful midsole and outsole combination of the original Racer, and incorporates a new seamless upper with internal support. Its certainly a nice upper, but its weighty material and supportive heel counter add over 25g to the shoes weight. The added weight and support now make it a shoe that, for light, efficient runners, is more of a 10K to half-marathon option than before; and could be used by other runners for shorter races.
