Mizuno Redhawk £50

Evaluation Mizuno added a trail shoe to its range this autumn with the Wildwood. This was essentially an existing road shoe with a slightly more rugged outsole and a tougher upper. The Redhawk follows the same path, although its off-road credentials are stronger than the Wildwood's. That's thanks to 6mm deep outsole lugs and a rugged upper with hardwearing overlays. It's still not an out-and-out off-roader, though. The midsole, which includes a fan-shaped stability Wave, is still that of a road shoe. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Redhawk might not be light and responsive enough for the fastest off-roaders, but the Wave in the rearfoot means that runners looking for a blend of cushioning and stability can wear it. And at just £50, it makes perfect sense as a second shoe.
In short Decent grip, nicely cushioned and fairly stable - the Redhawk is a trail shoe to suit many. It's also excellent value.
