Mizuno Wave Spacer £74.99

Evaluation Mizuno isn’t offering the best bargain here: the Wave Spacer has gone up by £10 and 23g. While you’d expect something amazing for £80, it’s simply an efficient and nicely made 10K shoe. The shoe is built on a relatively broad, relaxed last, and the midsole strikes a balance between firmness and smoothness. Combined with a plastic Wave cushioning plate and a plastic midfoot shank that reduces twisting, it makes for a well-cushioned, responsive, reasonably stable ride. Mizuno has tweaked the plastic Wave plate that provides durable cushioning, by building in a softer section for heel-strike, but still, you’d have to be keen to pay this much for a racer.
