Evaluation The Hurricane Ridge is an out-and-out off-road shoe from a brand which is favoured by adventure racers and all-day runners for its comfort and dependability. If youve seen Montrails Leona Divide), the Hurricane Ridge will look familiar, because it shares the same outsole and medially-posted midsole. That gives it a broad, stable ride, and cushioning thats softer than in shoes from many non-running brands that venture into the trail-running market.
The difference over the Leona Divide is in the Hurricane Ridges Gore-Tex upper. Gore-Tex comes with its own pros and cons its not ideal in hot weather or if you let water get in over the top of the shoe but one effect of the new upper is that the fit has improved. The Leona Divide was so broad that some testers feet would slip within the shoe; the Hurricane Ridge still has a generously-cut forefoot, but its more secure.
In short It may cost £30 more than its non-Gore-Tex alternative, but the Hurricane Ridge is a snugger-fitting, equally dependable all-day shoe. It will keep your toes dry in damp conditions, but it wont be good for crossing rivers because its waterproof upper wont let water escape.
Try it on if you liked Montrail Leona Divide (£60); Adidas Trediac (£80)
