Evaluation Ryka is a name you won’t have heard of unless you’ve been shoe-shopping in the USA.
It’s a brand that makes shoes exclusively for women, and its products have received consistently good reviews over the last few years. Why? Partly because of their fit. The last which Ryka shoes are built on creates a narrow, snug heel and a broad forefoot, which suits many female runners.
Ryka shoes have always had good stability, another factor which is often even more important for women than it is for men. And weartesters report that the cushioning works well for a woman’s lighter weight.
The Stability KM3 is a nicely designed shoe that offers plenty of medial control for moderate to severe overpronators. If you’re familiar with Brooks or Saucony shoes, you’ll find its stability reminiscent of the Addiction or GRID Sovereign. It has a two-thirds-length medial post reinforced by a plastic rollbar, full midfoot support in the midsole, and strong overlays on the upper for a supportive fit. The midsole also extends upwards slightly to cradle the midfoot, for added support.
In short If you’re a woman with a moderate to severe overpronation problem, the Stability KM3 is designed for you. It might take some hunting down, but it could be worth the effort, especially if you haven’t yet found a motion control shoe to fit you well.
Try it on if you liked Brooks Addiction (£65); Saucony GRID Sovereign (£60); recent women-specific shoes from Adidas and Nike
