20 SEP 2009: BERLIN MARATHON

Berlin has long been renowned for its slick organisation and fast course - which it certainly is at the elite end with a role of honour the includes the first sub-2.20 by a women, the first sub-2.05 and in 2007 we saw Haile Gebrselassie improve Paul Tergats mark with a new world best of 2.04.26......then, just to prove he is by far the best, Haile took the record under 2.04 in 2008. Surely sub-2 will come in the next generation of East Africans and probably in Berlin.

The event is just as good for those further down the field, with the route passing through famous and infamous districts on excellent roads and finally passing through the Brandenburg Gate, that symbol of the old divide between east and west to the finish 400m beyond.

Itinerary

Fri 18 Sep        Depart from London Heathrow on BA982 to Berlin departing at 08.50 and arriving 11.35. Private group transfer to your hotel. We will call into the Expo for registration directly from the airport.

Sat 19 Sep       International Breakfast run and time to discover Berlin

Sun 20 Sep      We make our way to the start after an early breakfast - the hotel is walking distance back to your hotel at the end.

Mon 21 Sep     Return private group transfer to Tegal Airport for BA985 departing 1640 and arriving in Heathrow at 1735.

You can book your own flights from other regional airports and a discount of £180 will be applied to you invoice however we can not offer airport-hotel transfers and registration visit for individually booked flights.

Hotel

The date for Berlin has moved from its normal last Sunday in September to 20^th September in 2009 because of the German election on the usual weekend. This has caused a big problem for hotel space as a big conference is already booked into Berlin for the 20^th.

However, we have secured a really nice 4-star hotel, The Penta Koepenick, in a suburban location on the edge of the Dahme River and across from the Koepenick Castle. With quick transportation into the centre of Berlin on the S-bahn the Penta Koepenick Hotel has the benefit of a quiet location with easy access. The Koepenick was completely refurbished in 2008 - reopening at the end of the year. All rooms have bathrooms en suite, flat screen TV and wi fi access. There is a restaurant and bar. Buffet breakfast included.
