Winter Gloves

These gloves are just what you need to keep your hands from freezing on long winter rides

 Sombrio Forensic gloves, £26

These super-thin gloves are a great all-rounder and they're perfect for the transition from autumn to winter. They might be aimed at mountain-bike riders but they're great for triathletes, too. The tough, hardwearing double-layer leather palm feels great and the multi-panel design offers excellent freedom of movement. They're also breathable when the weather's mild and offer great freedom of movement, while the stretchy cuff ensures a snug fit. There's also a small towelling pad on the thumb for wiping a runny nose.

Pro X-pert WP Winter gloves, £29.99

It's tough to find a glove that will keep yours hands dry and warm on a cold, wet December morning while simultaneously providing good natural feel for the bike. The Pro X-pert comes close. It's a padded glove that you wouldn't mistake for anything but a winter gauntlet yet does so without cocooning your hands in layer upon layer of insulation. It has a fully waterproof and breathable liner and hardwearing, carbon-reinforced palms. There's still enough bike feel through the gloves to move up and down the gears or to slam on the brakes.

 Specialized Women’s BG Equinox, £27.99

Specialized almost managed to resist the temptation to embellish this women’s winter glove with pink decoration, but not quite. Still, the pink that’s present there is fairly subtle. The women-specific fit comprises a stretchy, windproof and fleece-lined panel on the front to protect hands from the cold, a pad of the palm to cushion the ulnar nerve, and a handy microfibre panel on the thumb for wiping a running nose. The only criticism was that the cuff could have been longer to keep wrists toasty-warm, too.
