Triathlete since: 2000
The name and date of your first triathlon: The Margret Watson Junior Triathlon back in 2000 – it was a pool swim, laps of the school field on a bike and an athletics track run, my older brother won it the year before so I of course had to hold up the family tradition and take home the award.
Your 2011 tri achievements: Completing the Blenheim Sprint Tri and The London Triathlon – it was my first attempt at both longer distances and first Tri for over a decade so I was over the moon to be racing again and guess what... I thoroughly enjoyed them!
Your 2012 triathlon goals: I won’t be competing much this year because of the immense amount of work I need to put in on improving my swim and bike technique, they let me down massively last year, I don’t want to be a paddler in the water at the back, I’d like to swim a bit cleaner in the front pack and attack hills better on the bike. I’m going to (hopefully) get through running the MDS in April and then focus a lot more time in the open water and in the saddle.
The next piece of kit you're going to buy, and why: I’m going to be buying a few bits in the next month, rucksack, front pack, gaiters and a sleeping bag all for the MDS in April, so many small bits to get in order to have a successful race – I’m looking forward to perhaps treating myself to some customised Oakley sunnies to combat the desert sun.
