Gear Pick of the Week: ClearEars

ClearEars, £5.19

Katherine says: Over the years swimmers have found unique ways to clear their waterlogged ears. However, some of us have had no choice but to tolerate the deafening sensation whilst water dislodges itself naturally. ClearEars is a revolutionary product designed to combat this.

Made from pliable foam with FDA approved polymer to draw water from the ears, the product is really simple to use. Roll the plug between your finger and thumb until it is small enough to be inserted into your ear canal. Once in, hold until the foam expands enough to stay in place. After five minutes all the water should be absorbed and you can carry on with your day!

Whilst I only occasionally suffer from swimmer’s ear, I found another reason to use this product. I like to run home from the pool with my iPod – after using ClearEars I was safe in the knowledge there was no risk of damaging my headphones with any excess water left in my ears.

Extremely easy and comfortable to use, the clever people at ClearEars have also come up with a novel solution for the environmentally friendly amongst you. They suggest only using each plug once, but afterwards you can simply cut it up and add to your soil, where they help retain moisture for your plants! They are available at most pharmaceutical retailers, including Boots.

I bought some alcohol drops whilst in America and they work every time. Just 3 drops in the ear then tilt your head and all the water comes out. Haven't checked to see if you can get it in the UK.
