Gear Pick of the Week: MuleBar Kicks Gel

Mule Bar Lemon Zinger

MuleBar Kicks Lemon Zinger Gel, £1.50

Alison says: The folk at MuleBar have a great reptuation for creating tasty, natural, ethically-sourced refuelling products for energetic endurance athletes. For 2012, they've fine tuned three exisiting flavour – Apple Strudel, Lemon Zinger and Cherry Bomb – and introduced a new flavour: Cafe Cortado, named after the team's favourite Spanish coffee. Each gel contains around 30g of organic carbohydrate to keep you moving, as well as a hit of caffeine to delay the onset of fatigue. The electrolyte content of the gels has also been tweaked. Each now offers more than 80 minerals plus 100mg of sodium per 37g sachet, which work together to improve rehydration, reduce the risk of muscle cramp and boost carbohydrate absorption when taken with water. The flavours are great too: the Lemon Zinger is like a beefed up version of lemon curd, while the Cafe Cortado tastes like a grown-up caffeinated treacle toffee. Yum.
