ZICO Mango Coconut Water Review (£2.49)

Izzy says: Coconut water is not just this summer’s celebrity diet fad – it’s naturally packed with essential electrolytes and potassium, making it a great alternative to sugar, caffeine and preservative-loaded sports recovery drinks.

It helps you hydrate faster than water and is perfect straight from the fridge after a run.

ZICO, the newest brand on the UK market, comes in a durable (and recyclable) plastic bottle with a screw cap, making it ideal for sport.

Coconut water is the clear liquid extracted from young, green coconuts and the taste bears little relation to the creamy, sweet intensity of coconut meat or milk.

With no added sugar or artificial flavours – just 100 per cent pure coconut water - ZICO’s all-natural version has a subtle nuttiness, but the overall impression is of smooth, mildly sweet water with a distinctive savoury tang. It’s definitely an acquired taste and it has the Marmite effect at TW Towers, but if you rate it, you'll be knocking back bottles.

If you find the artificial fruit flavours and syrupy sweetness of other isotonic drinks cloying and hard to stomach, ZICO coconut water offers a refreshing, light and clean-tasting alternative.

After an intense training session, you might want a recovery drink that packs a bit more of a punch in the form of carbs and calories. But if it’s healthy, natural hydration you want, this stuff is hard to beat. Just make sure it’s ice cold!
