Forumites of the Year!

Forumite most likely to cheer you up on a grim day, most helpful, best newcomer, flirtiest forumite... and more! Here's who you voted for

Posted: 23 December 2003

Here's your online editor by a crackling fire in darkest Sussex, going through all the votes you made for Forumites of The Year. And what a treat it is. There weren't just three or four stars; there were scores of different nominations, and dozens of special reasons why.

So, for forumite most likely to cheer you up on a grim day, most helpful, best newcomer, and the flirtiest forumite, right through to the excellent justifications for the special award of the year, read on...

Happy Christmas - and thanks for voting!

Most likely to cheer you up on a grim day

Let's face it, there are lots of grim days out there. So special mentions to...

... 1/2 M girl, AlanD, Any of the regulars on the Scottish Runners thread, Anyone on Porkers thread, Badger, Barnsleyrunner, Blonde Bird, DavidB, Daz, Dibble, Dr. Nic, Evil Pixie, Fat Lady Runs, Frosty the Yeoman, Fruity Reindeer, Gavo, George, H, Hetfinch, Hildegard, Hilly, Hippo, JJ, Jose, Kermit, Laura L, LizzyB, Meerkat, MMmmm Universal Twinkler, Moosey, Nessie, Plodding Hippo, Puff, Ratcatcher, Road Runner, Run Rabbit Run, Sassie, Shambler, Silent White Hippo, Spans, Steve Bond, The beginners daily plod thread, The Bobolink, The Count, Tigger, Waapster, Xerxes

A special vote for Jon in a cheeky third place, but for the ultimate better-than-Prozac vote... it was neck and neck between A Chimp Writes and JulieJoo!

Now, there isn't a single unhelpful soul on the RW forums, but one person rightly stole the show here for her endlessly sage running-related counsel on matters medical and more. A special mention goes to Pantman, but the forumite everyone wishes they had for a GP, as well as a friend and general mentor, is... Velociraptor!

Not forgetting also...
AlanD, All Of Them On Beginners, All Plodders And FFFers, Andy Collier, Annajo, Ashley Smith, Barkles, Big Tim, BK, Blonde Bird, BO, Bune, Chimp, Cougie, Dangly Spice, Dibble, Dodge, XFR Bear, DBSA, Benz, Dunnarunner, Evil Pixie, Fat Lady Runs, Fbf, FLR, Glenn, Hilly, Hippo, Ironwolf, JJ, Johnny J, Jon, JulieJoo, Knackered Knees For Printing The URWFRC Banners At FLM, Lynne W, Marmite Master, Mick Rice, Mike S, Mike Stone, Mmm Twinkler, Moosey, Nessie, Old Bones/Overcooked Brussles, Pantman, Plodding Hippo, RIchard M, Richard The Rhino, Right Foot Left Foot, Rincewind, Sam Panther, Scotty, Shades, Snoop, Spans, Staggering, The Count, Two Dogs' Urban Road Runner, Wild Will, Wolfy, Yorkie Road Runner

Best keeper of a long-running thread

As many of you rightly pointed out, everyone makes the threads what they are... but what the hell... Was your threadholder of the year... Jon, Fat Buddha, Dr Nic, or Johnny J (all top nominees...)? Cue thead wars, as this year's congratulations go to... Fat Buddha!

Welcome, new people! Those of you who particularly made your mark this year included...

AlanD, Carolsingingtallgirl, Ceal, Chimp, Christmas Reindeer, Crossry Pat, Daz, Dibble, Dodge, Dodge (In A Sick Sort Of Way. Though I Wish He'd Shut Up At Times!), FB, Floosie Sue, Hippy Chick, Hungry Hippo, Ian Burns (See Thread On 'Static Running Partners'), Jose, Kerry, Lovejoy, MikeB, Notty, NRG-B, OB, Pantman, Pathfinder, PDW, Right Foot Left Foot, Run Rabbit Run, Scooter Boy, Skipp, Smitch, Staggering, Superpootle, The Count, Timothy Rainey, Vixen, Waapster, Welsh Poppy, Yeoman 2 (Frosty The Yeoman)...

... and in particular, JulieJoo!

Most likely to be on the forum regardless of time of day

So, the women kick everyone else's butt here. Jon and XFR/Fruity Reindeer put in a stout defence, but the only serious battle in town is between Blonde Bird, JulieJoo and Benz (Hippo). And can anyone come within a mile of Benz?? Not a chance!

Blonde Bird, Cougie, Daz, Dr Nic, Nicko, Shambler, Wolfy all scored shamelessly high on the flirtiest front. But wait - who's missing? She's not your typical shy and retiring newbie... She's the flirtiest forumite of 03... She's... JulieJoo

No.. stop... come back. Jon, they love you really! But congratulations for being 12 times as teased as the legendary Steve Bond :-)

Have you seen these people? Be sure too tell them that their ol' buddies on the RW forum miss having them around. Little virtual tears are being shed for...

Achilles, AlanD, Aluaka, Armadillo, Badger, BK, Cath, Cookie, Dog Walker, Dr Helen, Drew, Fat Rascal, Foxy, Gavo, HelenT, JJ, Jon, Kermit, Lamb, Lard And Dripping Badger, Laura L, LDBadger, Legless, LJ, Long Distance Badger, Lovejoy, Mad Kat, Martin H, NickJ, Northern Nut, O.B, Oracle, Piglet, Pinkfelina, Psi, Redhead, Sarcy, Snicks, Spud, The Editor, Tiggers Are Bouncy, Vicky, Xerxes...

... and most of all, for Wee Piglet...

Special award

This was the best category to browse through, because nearly all of you gave fantastic reasons (the ones in brackets are some highlights)

A chimp writes (For making me laugh out loud many times), AlanD, Ashley Smith (For organising FLM support this year; forever helpful with speedy replies on transport, races and so on... even offers lifts to races!!), Barkles, Beginners daily plod threads, Big Tim (Runs with the best of us and has time to encourage the least among us), BK, Bune (fun, caring supportive and just plain fab), Cath, Ceal, DDP, Dibble, Evil Pixie (for perserverance), Fat Squirrel, FBF...

... Fruity Reindeer Bear (Ian), Grumpy Old Git - TwoDogs (He's a Grumpy Old Git), JJ, Johnny J (He is always there with good advice about running and life in general. He is very amusing, witty and kind. He has been out of action recently with an injuired knee but has still been there for 'us' runners, when in truth he must have been gutted), Jon (he tries the hardest; Cos he's gorgeous!; Creases me up; You need to ask???)...

... Jose', Josie Jump (all the Forumites I've met in real life are lovely - but Josie is SPECIALLY lovely), JulieJoo (for being a super-duper, loving, sympathetic, funny, all-round blooming good egg), Lindihopper, LizzyB, Mmm and Dr Nic (falling in love when both single), Monique (for inspiring us), Moosey, ob, Pantman (an amazing inspiration and bottomless source of information)...

... Political To Dodge, Porkworld, Puff (for announcing her pregnancy to fellow-forumites (the plod thread) FIRST!), Richard M, Right Foot Left Foot, Runner, Running Dan (because he does so much running for charity even when injured and is a really nice guy), Scooter Boy, Services to Feminism- Laura L (wherever there is injustice...), Shades (good role model)...

... Shambler (for her amazing eeeeks on the Sodbury Slog; nearly as bad a flirt as Nicko), Shattered Shins, Snail, Snicks (an all-time Great of the forum), Snoop Dogg, SooBDoo, Spans, Staggering On, The Count, Tim Rainey (just doesn't know when to stop running!!), Top Peep, TwoDogs, TwoTon (stretching the limits of the possible), WildWill (his knowledge and experience, his willingness to share both; his quiet encouragement and support; his own triumph over adversity, and his gentlemanly manner), XFR Bear, Yllana (for physically pulling me along the Brighton 10K).

Now, can we really say that one person is more special than all the others? Well, no... But if you want to know who won the most votes... warmest congratulations to three people (in ascending order...): Barnsley Runner (the original Mr Motivator; for his running; incredibly helpful to newcomers even thought he's such a talented runner himself)...

.... Vrap (most helpful; always there for good clear (and sometimes brutal) advice; witty, intelligent, encouraging and very helpful; being a forum doc; for making a personal difference; can always be relied on); and...

... Benz (for sheer determination; ongoing grit and determination; finishing Abingdon under extreme circumstances; most inspirational; never gives up!; she is always so helpful and a true inspiration in a race, happy to come in at the lower end but still determined to give it a go and not to give up; she is always encouraging, helpful and a supportive friend; she's my inspiration, couldn't run without her; medical advice and humour; guts, honesty and inspiration; she's just special; determination to marathons, her help and advice if ill, and she still works more hours than most of us; persistence; Incredible dedication in both her training and work life; stoicism; advice, support and determination; she helps and supports everyone and almost always makes sense whilst still being funny; she's inspirational and tenacious)

Posted: 23/12/2003 at 15:55

Badger was named at least three times in one category - anyone would think the RW staff don't spend hours reading these forums...
