How far is the race?
You decide! The 6.6-mile off-road loop means your race can be just over 10k or even over 60k. You decide how many laps you're going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit***. If you're looking to cover a marathon distance you'll need to complete 4 laps (26.4 miles) and a half marathon will be 2 laps (13.2 miles). The course is relatively flat, the ground is good and despite the time of year should be easily passable for road trainers - although they might get a bit grubby if its wet!
*** Unlike in our other events we would request you start your last lap before the 5hr mark (2pm) - given the 6.6 mile lap if someone starts their lap after this we could be there a very long time! This isn't a hard deadline (if you've been doing 45 minute laps for example!) but we would appreciate the last runner to be back before 4pm to allow us to get off site as agreed with the landowners.
No entries on the day
There is a strict entry limit. Once the event gets down to the last places we'll endeavor to make people aware through social media and emails (join the mailing list here). Once the event is full a waiting list will be created. This will be available through the normal entry site.
You do have to pay to park (£3.00 at the time of writing). This money goes directly to the country park, it's a great space that needs money and this is their main revenue stream. That said, be a hero and car share, save money and the world!
Why is it called the Bigfoot Challenge?
No real reason to be honest! We thought we could make some nice Bigfoot themed medals and it links in nicely to our other mythical beast event the Yeti Challenge later in the year. If you want to dress up as a hairy beast feel free. Or maybe just don't have a shave in the morning!
The majority of the course is over crushed stone with some small sections on wooded trail and tarmac. Road shoes should be suitable but 'racers' probably wont be very comfortable given the stone paths. If the weather is very wet leading up to the event puddles might form but there shouldn't be muddy obstacles.
