A new concept in trail running has arrived. Called the Inov-8 after its
sponsor, the race will be an eight mile route along forest tracks, trails
and moorland paths and for an athletics event, has an original concept. In
a similar vein to events such as the Karrimor and Lowe Alpine Mountain
Marathons, it is intended to move the location of the run to a different
part of the Durham Dales each year thus making each year's race unique in
character. By moving the route around the Dales it is hoped to present the
best scenery and trail running country that the North Pennines has to offer
whilst offering a new and original challenge each year to the competitors.
However, it must be stressed that unlike the Mountain Marathons no
navigation ability will be required as the routes will be fully marked and
marshalled. The race is intended to put a little bit of adventure into any
runner's "sole" whilst still being a trail run that the majority of runners
would feel competant of completing.
As well as the race being a unique event each year, the race tee shirt
given to competitors will also change to reflect both the route and nature
of that year's race. This will make each year's shirt a one-off design and
something that is likely to become a collector's piece. The design and
quality of these tee shirts are top rate and the response from the few
people who have seen it has been very favourable to say the least.
For this, the race's first year, the event is being held in Hamsterley
Forest on 12 October. Starting from the Grove car park at 11:00 am, the
route will follow forest tracks and trails into areas of the forest that
have not been visited by any other race. This year's competitors are
guaranteed one of the most scenic races in the North East.
