There are many marathons that promise spectacular scenery, fantastic atmosphere and a truly memorable experience – but few deliver it quite like the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running.
Taking place on 25th September, the marathon course runs alongside the iconic Scottish loch and is quite possibly one of the most stunning marathon routes anywhere in the world. It is a far cry from the big city marathons where hundreds of people line the route: here you will find peace, tranquillity and nothing but the sound of the excited chatter of runners and the loch lapping against the shore.
But it is not just the course that has made the event a must-do for the thousands of runners who come from all corners of the world. It is renowned for its slick organisation, welcoming atmosphere to runners of all abilities and unforgettable camaraderie. Participants may start as strangers, but at the end of 26.2 miles they are bound together in friendship.
The inclusive nature of the event is also a huge draw with something for runners of all ages and abilities. If a full-scale marathon isn’t for you, why not enter the Baxters River Ness 10K? This flat point-to-point course, with excellent PB potential, winds through the historic Highland capital, passing the Castle and along the banks of the picturesque River Ness. There is also a 10K Corporate Challenge for teams of four to six, the River Ness 5K Fun Run for all ages and abilities and the Wee Nessie race for kids.
The whole weekend has a real festival atmosphere as Inverness extends the welcoming hand of Highland hospitality to over 8500 competitors. With a Pasta Party, Sports Expo, Food & Drink Fayre, live music and kids’ activities throughout the day, there’s plenty to entertain both runners and spectators.
