Marathon des Sables 2011: Gallery

You've followed Triathlete's World Editor Alison's Marathon des Sables blog over the last week, and now she's back with some stunning pictures which show off the dramatic backdrop to this epic week-long desert race (and her bandaged feet...).

After arriving in the desert with suitcases and in some cases, inflatable mattresses, it's time to decide what to take on the long trek ahead.

The tents disappear early in the morning, leaving sleepy runners no option but to pack up and ready themselves for the next stage.

Another stage begins...

Gaitors - an essential part of the desert runner's armoury.

Alison's poor feet - extra points for the jazzy red nail varnish!

For MdS runners, the sight of a Sultan Tea pot means one thing - the finish line is in sight.
