My 2004 London Marathon

Hi folks, Baza here, mostly post on the "Scottish Runners" thread in the General area. Just checked the pictures and 'fortunately' none of me (if my finish line picture is anything to go by anyway...LOL)

Best moment had to be going over Tower Bridge; I thought I was going to go deaf. I was surprised at the amount of people still there in the horrible weather.

Hanging about at the start had to be the worst moment; tents were all full, not surprisingly mind you.

The best bit of the race, for me at least had to be when I realised I was running behind Nell McAndrew at halfway, what "blue blooded male" wouldn't slow down for Nell. That cost me 2 minutes that did.... Honest!!!

I said I fancied getting round in sub 3:15, but I'd settle for 3:30. When I got to 23 mile and the clock said 2:50 I knew 3:15 was out the window, but if I could to 3.2 mile in 30 minutes I was on for a PB, I managed 3:17:18, PB by about 3 minutes that had stood since FLM 1995.

If I decide to enter next year I'd certainly train more and put in a few longer runs than I did this year. 20 were the longest I ever did to be honest.

I travelled home 1st Class to Edinburgh on the train with a few tins of beer for company. I wanted a glass of Champers to celebrate my PB but Gner had none left on the train. I'm now resting for a complete fortnight... well deserved I think
