RW Previews: Blackburn ‘Winter Warmer’ 10K, Feb 1

Where and when?
Sunday, February 1, Lancashire

What is it?
Top tip: enter a fine February race right now, while you're bright and motivated - and come the dark days of January, you'll have no excuse but to train up for it.

Early-February races are a rare breed, but if you're near Blackburn, you're in luck. The Winter Warmer 10K starts at Witton Park and after a customary dash around the track, heads straight into the countryside on the roads.

The next mile is uphill, but the views at the top are worth the brief amount of exertion. In fact if it weren’t for the race, you’d probably stop to admire the scenic delights of the Lake District, Snowdonia and Blackpool Tower.

But sightseeing is not on your agenda, and you’ve got that extra helping of Christmas pudding to burn off (still).

After a steep downhill stretch, the race begins to level out before rising once more near the halfway mark.

The rest of the course tours the delightful local parklands and playing fields, before a fast downhill finish that will take you back to the track, for your lap of glory.

What the organisers say:
“The course offers some spectacular views that no other race in the area can match.”

What RW says:
“ A good race in a quiet month...”

Watch out for:
The views over the Blackpool Tower and the Lake District are breathe-taking.
