Gear pick of the week: Skullcandy XTfree headphones

For runners who can't hit the road without a soundtrack, a pair of comfortable, high quality headphones is a must. We tested out the latest offering from Skullcandy - the XTfree. These sweat-resistant earbuds have a sleek, modern design with Pureclean™ tech to keep them hygienic, plus they offer up to six hours of Bluetooth playback time.

Runner's World Digital Editor Ben Hobson said "What Skullcandy do well is sound and the XTFree is no different. The EQing may be slightly on the generous side, but when working out or running, I like the music to sound as big as possible and these certainly do that. The Bluetooth connect was reliable too, it never flagged or dropped out and the size of the ear units wasn’t an issue."

"They’re also secure in the ear - they never fell out but this is also where the one fault lies. Many other in-ear headphones of this type tend to have a curved rubber arm that fits inside the concha. This rubber arm can normally move about to accommodate different ear shapes and sometimes it comes in different sizes too. Skullcandy have opted for a fixed rubber arm the extends straight out and is forced to bend when in the ear. This does provide a secure fit, but after some time of wearing them, this arm can become uncomfortable."

"Aside from that, these are a great contender in the Bluetooth market, especially at a price point more associated non-Bluetooth headphones."

Skullcandy XTfree wireless Bluetooth headphones cost £79.99 from Skullcandy's online store.
