Improved runner safety as Strava launch Beacon

Stava launches 'Beacon' for premium users

Accessed by a link in a text message, Strava has launched 'Beacon', a service available as part of their premium membership that allows users to send a live tracking link to up to three people when they start an activity.

Managed via the Strava app, runners can now set off on a run knowing that they can send a location or allow a chosen person to follow their whereabouts.

The upside to this is that if lost or running late, you can communicate a direct location, allow those who might worry about where you to track you, or even just send to friends who can happily watch you navigate to a location.

Downside - for the moment it's app based with no indication of that changing, so that means you have to have your phone with you, which isn't a big deal but might not be for everyone.

So all in all, a simple yet effective safety feature that allows those running on their own or when it's dark to feel reassured that someone knows where they are.
