Exciting things are happening in the world of women’s workout kit this year. LIJA will be launching exclusively in House of Fraser in February and we can confirm, it’s worth waiting for.
LIJA was founded by Linda Hipp in Canada 15 years ago and has since boomed in North America but 2014 will see them spread to Europe. We were lucky enough to meet Linda, hear the back story, see the latest collection and road test it on a workout to truly try it for size (and fit, feel and comfort…).
The LIJA collection is suitable for any activity but they have specialist ranges for running, tennis, yoga and golf. The concept is simple; stylish inspirational clothing without compromising on functionality. LIJA have carried out a great deal of research into their market and what women want from workout kit and on the back of this they’ve come up with a model of the LIJA woman. Whether you buy into this or not (and I do), LIJA make great kit for girls.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the running apparel. The kit is different from almost anything else on the market with far greater influence from the fashion world than you’ll get with other sports brands. It also provides attention to creating a flattering feminine fit. Details such as rouching at the waist, colour paneling and style design patterns cater for women who are concerned with style.
So now for the crucial test, how does it work? It incorporates all the essential technical features you’d expect from any running kit; flatlocked seams, breathability, sweat wicking fabrics. The fit is extremely comfortable from the offset and continued to be so for the duration my first run. Details such as thumbhole loops, zip pockets and adjustible drawcord waist band cater for those little extra specifics that make a difference in the long run.
I’ve now been wearing the kit for over two months for both outdoor running as well as gym sessions and yoga and it has withstood every test for performance and comfort. Despite numerous washings, there has been no fraying or fading in fabric quality or colour and I am still plesantly surprised by strangers on the street approaching me to ask where I got my jacket or vest.
