Evaluation The Cumulus has always been a safe bet for comfort-oriented neutral runners. It twins a soft ride with a decent degree of rearfoot stability, thanks to a wide base and an internal stability board under the heel. This years version has changed little. Essentially the fit has become a little more snug in the midfoot because the lacing system loops into the Asics logos on the side of the shoe; and the forefoot has been narrowed slightly (its still above-average for roominess, though, and there is a wide version available.) Theres little change to the well-balanced feel of the shoe: if anything, the forefoot ride feels fractionally more positive and stable, and the slightly narrower profile gives a smoother heel-to-toe transition.
In short The new Gel Cumulus keeps its instantly recognisable soft ride, with minor tweaks to the fit and responsiveness. Its still a good-value option, particularly suited to underpronators and othoses wearers, as well as neutral runners.
