Full review: Mizuno Wave Mustang £60

Weight 330g
Evaluation Mizuno sees the brand-new Wave Mustang as its closest rival to category favourites such as the Nike Air Pegasus and Asics Gel Cumulus. That means a no-frills, comfortably cushioned shoe that you enjoy pulling on every day. Mizuno has managed that with a roomy, lightweight upper and cushioning courtesy of a parallel Wave plate, VS1 cushioning in the heel and forefoot, and an extra millimetre of EVA in the midsole.
It works pretty well. If anything, the cushioning feels a little softer than the Pegasus, but that’s not to say it’s pillowy. And while it’s not as responsive as some other Wave shoes, you still get a smooth ride, helped by a flexible forefoot.
In short There are already some very good, nicely cushioned and smooth shoes in this price range, but the Wave Mustang won’t feel out of place.
Try it on if you liked Nike Air Pegasus 2002 (£60); Asics Gel Cumulus (£60)
