Evaluation The 760 series is one of the anchors of the New Balance range, and the company has continually tweaked this popular shoe to improve it over the years. Last year’s excellent 764 provided a good balance of cushioning and stability, making it a great all-rounder. The good news is that New Balance hasn’t changed the shoe too much to create the 765, although there are a few important changes. The shoe follows the company’s trend of making some of its popular shoes beefier, so the Abzorb cushioning has been added to – and now covers – the entire forefoot (it’s the yellow material visible on the medial side). Considering that the 764 was plusher than its predecessor, some runners may find that the shoe doesn’t provide a firm enough platform and toe-off. The rest of the midsole is heavier and more substantial – although the medial post is largely unchanged - than in the 764. But the biggest change is the fit, as the 765 has an even roomier forefoot and toebox than the 764.
In short The 765 is still a great all-rounder, offering enough stability for mild overpronators, and plenty of cushioning. Some runners will love the plusher and roomier forefoot, but fans of earlier 760s might not be quite so keen.
