Evaluation The Legend is the replacement for the Wave Foundation, an excellent motion control shoe, but not one that attracted the same following as Mizuno’s superb stability and racing shoes. Hopefully the Legend will earn a larger following as it’s another good shoe with a wide base of support and a very stable, very well-cushioned midsole.
The Legend makes use of Mizuno’s Wave technology to provide a soft, rubber wave on the lateral side and a more rigid, double plastic wave on the medial side. This creates a very soft landing on impact, combined with a very firm midsole post on the medial side. The Legend has a smoother, slightly softer rearfoot and a wider forefoot than the Foundation.
What’s good about this shoe is that it’s a midsole shoe. This means that practically all the support comes from the Double Wave and the shape of the midsole. Apart from a couple of straps integrated into its rear section, the upper is relatively uncomplicated, delivering a less restrictive and cumbersome fit than other mid-weight motion control shoes.
Our weartesters – particularly the big, heavy overpronators – found the Legend extremely stable and durable, and liked the deep fit at the heel.
In short A motion control shoe with the lightness and smooth cushioning of a less-rigid stability shoe.
