Striders Edge preview

Women’s only brand Striders Edge offered us a sneak peek at their Autumn collection so we dutifully tried out garment after garment and picked our highlights. The collection offers a refreshing mix of colours and cuts that cater for women who want to stand out and stay fashionable on the run. The little details such as the body smoothing fabric, slim line paneling and clever styling touches prove that every barrier to women looking good in workout kit has been considered and tailored for. We approve.

Hi Breathe T

What does it do?

This performance T-shirt ticks all the technical boxes. It’s sweat wicking, breathable and has flat locked seams. The fit is snug and flattering - think slim line waist - the black accentuates this silhouette. A selling point of this piece though is the back, which features a meshed cutout panel for ventilation.

The verdict

Team this with a statement sports bra and you’ve got yourself a great look – I’d even go out in the evening in this (it’s that flattering.) More importantly though it is incredibly comfortable, with zero chaffing or irritation.

EC – Map Strappy

What does it do?

Strap top with detailed racer back feature. Sweat wicking antibacterial fabric with ruche detailing at the front. As with most of the collection this has an engineered structure so it is both supportive and stylish, ideal.

The verdict

This looks great and is ultra flattering so another great option if you want to spice up your wardrobe. The colour options are a step up from the standard purples and pinks that women’s kit all too often comprises of; it comes in wilderness blue and firecracker orange. It’s worth noting that this top may be more adept for the gym or yoga however as it tended to ride up a little on longer runs.

Catalyst Tight

What does it do?

Anti-chafe, sweat wicking, breathable slim fit with contrast side paneling. These are designed to be flattering and to smooth over all the bumps, (there is even a crotch gusset to avoid any unwanted, erm, clinging). Gathered knee articulation vents provide further breathability, and there is a discreet zip pocket for keys and other items.

The verdict

These are possibly the most comfortable and flattering leggings I’ve ever ran in. The side panels are slimming and everything feels like it is smoothed over a tightened – not an easy feat. Unlike most tights however, these feature a drawstring, which I found had to be tightened to avoid them slipping during runs. Not a big issue, but one worth noting.

Engineered compression bra

What does it do?

Available in a series of standout colours the compression bra is a Striders Edge staple. It offers engineered construction and compression control and is made with antibacterial sweat wicking fabric.

The verdict

Incredibly comfortable and well supported for girls with smaller chests. Depending on the level of support you require, this can make a brilliant all rounder and the colour selection makes it temptating to buy one in every shade.

Flex short

What does it do?

Lightweight short shorts with adjustable drawstring detailing at the sides (to make them shorter). Elasticated waistband for comfort and ease slipping in and out of them; you will feel like you’re wearing nothing!

The verdict

For the more brazen girls out there who don’t mind skimpy and want to stand out from the crowd – these will turn many a head. I wasn’t so brave (perhaps for Bikram yoga), but credit these for their comfort and freeing feeling. I also love the metallic lime green.

Freedom vest

What does it do?

Racer back vest. Lightweight sweat wicking fabric designed to sit closely and comfortably to the skin. Contains reflective detailing at the back and available in metallic zesty lime and silver.

The verdict

Super lightweight and soft next to the skin. The discreet seams mean this form fitting garment skim over the bodyline without being too revealing or restrictive. The zesty lime offers a brave splash of colour to your running wardrobe.
