An Ethiopian marathon runner has died and five other runners have been seriously injured after their training group was hit by a truck while out running in Sululuta, just north of Addis Ababa, on Saturday.

25-year-old Ashagre Girma died at the scene and his teammates Damtew Tilahun, Tamrat Worku, Teshome Hailu and Ashebir are all recovering from serious injuries.

Many Ethiopian runners train on main roads. As a developing country, the runners have limited access to healthcare.
