For the third year in a row the UK’s leading sports watch and running magazine brands teamed up to provide a pace-making service at five spring half marathons (Watford, Dorney Lake’s Race Your Pace, Blackpool, Silverstone and Brentwood) as well the London Marathon.
RW has been the official pace team for the London Marathon for the past 15 years, providing pacers each running at various speeds to help nervous or newbie runners hit their time goal.Size matters
Thanks to its continued huge popularity, this year RW had its biggest ever presence at the VLM, providing a massive 43 pacers (twice as many as 2012), who ran finishing times every 15 minutes from 2:59 to 5:14.Say cheese
At the pre-marathon expo at London’s ExCeL centre, runners who wanted to use the pacing service were handed a Top Trumps-style card with the photo and biog of the exact pacer they intended to follow, and were then offered the chance to pose for a photo in front of the Timex Target Predictor for the chance to win a newly launched Timex Run Trainer 2.0. Congratulations to Sachin Shah, who was our prize-draw winner.Flag it up
On race day, the pacers lined up at all three starts – Red, Blue and Green – each one running with a large Timex-branded flag, which stuck out proudly above the heads of the marathon runners.Perfect timing
The pacers used one of two GPS sport watches: the Run Trainer or the new Marathon GPS, both part of the Timex speed and distance range, specifically designed to help runners hit their target every time.
