As hard as it can sometimes be to let go of the miles we’ve endured in our favourite pair of training shoes, there’s no better time than now to renovate our runs with a new pair. From October 9th, running shop Runners Need is launching their nationwide ‘Recycle My Run’ initiative to encourage runners to donate an old pair of trainers in exchange for money off a new pair. A short trip to any one of Runners Need’s 34 UK stores can see your trainers going on a long trip to other countries that have a real need for affordable footwear.
For this month only, Runner’s Need are rewarding those who donate old trainers with a £20 voucher to be used against a new pair of trainers from their collection. From then, the service will still remain in store allowing runners to give their old trainers a good home and alleviate the strain on the landfill too!
The recycled shoes will be collected by the European Recycling Company. CEO Andy Haws says ‘We are delighted to be working with Runners Need on this exciting initiative. Recycling your running shoes and trainers is a big step towards minimising the impact that shoe waste has on the environment, and together [we] are doing just that.’
There might still be some more life and miles in those old shoes yet!
