Shropshire runner plans record-breaking marathons event for charity

53 marathons

26-year-old Amy Hughes from West Felton has set herself the 1,400-mile challenge to help raise £53,000 and spread awareness for the Isabelle Lottie Foundation.

According to The Guinness World Records the current record, set in Japan in 2009 by Akinori Kusuda, stands at 52, and the current female record is 17.

Starting in Chester on the 6th of August, the challenge will see Amy visiting 53 different towns and cities across the UK including Manchester, London, Glasgow, Bristol and Newcastle. If Amy completes the 53 marathon challenge she will beat the previous female record more than three times over.

"If you want to make a difference, you’ve got to do something crazy. I feel really passionately about keeping fit and active, so intend to inspire the nation, especially young people!" Amy said. “By doing this I want to raise important funds and awareness about brain tumours through the Isabelle Lottie Foundation, as well as the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.”
