South African Wayde van Niekerk makes sprinting history

South African sprinter Wayde van Niekerk has become the first athlete in history to run the 100m in under 10 seconds‚ the 200m in under 20 seconds and the 400m in under 44 seconds.

Van Niekerk ran 100m in 9.98 seconds in Bloemfontein on Saturday, adding to his 19.94 personal best over 200m and 400m 43.48 world title.

'Wow! Finally reaching my childhood dream of sub 10,' the The 23-year-old wrote on Instagram alongside a video of the race.

Van Niekerk is scheduled to run the 400m at the Olympics in Rio this summer.
