Police appeal for witnesses after runner is killed by lorry in Hertfordshire

The wife of the runner who was sadly killed after being hit by a lorry near Baldock in Hertfordshire has today payed tribute to her late husband, Peter Day.

The runner, aged 60, suffered serious injuries after being hit by the lorry at around 4pm at the A507 Clothall Road, at the junction of Warren Lane and Ashanger Lane. An ambulence was called, but he died at the scene.

He worked as a post office manager in Hitchin and leaves behind his wife, Cilla aged 65, and their daughter Laura, aged 27.

Cilla paid tribute to her husband, a keen runner who used the footpaths surrounding Baldock four to five times a week: "We were a very close family. Peter loved to be at home with us, he was very family-orientated and very traditional. He was a quiet and gentle person."

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
