Norfolk will get it's first marathon in 2019

Councillors in north Norfolk have approved plans for a new marathon, which will take place in October 2019. Giving the county it’s first ‘official’ marathon, the coastal marathon will be organised under UK Athletics regulations.

Whilst the exact route runners take is yet to be determined, the council will now work with partners including the North Norfolk Beach Runners to work out where the race should take place. So far, the only details confirmed are that the race will be coastal and held in October next year.

Becky Palmer, portfolio holder for leisure at North Norfolk District Council told local publication Eastern Daily Press that she hoped the new event would create the same buzz as events like the London Marathon. She said: “You see the coverage events like the London marathon and the Great North Run receive, so we want to bring something like that to Norfolk.

“It’s all to do with promoting our wonderful coastline so we hope it will bring visitors to the area and really create a buzz.”
