Honey energy bars

Anytime you’re running for longer than an hour, pack some fuel to power you through. Energy gels are convenient, but sometimes you want something more substantial. These energy bars are quick to make and contain a hefty hit of energising carbs – and they’re delicious.


Honey energy bars

Makes 9 bars

2 large eggs

3 tbsp honey

2 tbsp canola oil

2 tsp grated orange zest

240g granola

80g roughly chopped walnuts


1/ Heat the oven to 190C. Lightly coat a 20cm-square baking tray with oil.

2/ In a bowl, lightly whisk the eggs. Whisk in the honey, oil and zest. Then stir in the granola and walnuts. Mix until thoroughly combined.

3/ Spread the mixture in the baking tray and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and set. Cool for 10 minutes before cutting into nine squares. Store, tightly covered, in the fridge.
