Why are these great for runners?
Manuka honey is thought to have antibacterial properties and aid digestion. It’s also a natural sweetener with almost 20% fewer calories than granulated sugar.
Peanut butter is packed with healthy fats to help you feel satiated. It’s also rich in biotin, a B vitamin which is essential for fat metabolism, and copper, which helps produce blood cells.
Oats are a fantastic source of slow-release energy and contain soluble fibre, which can help reduce cholesterol levels. While oats don't contain gluten, they're often processed alongside it, so if you're gluten-intolerant make sure to use free-from oats.
Manuka honey and peanut butter flapjacks
160g manuka honey (we used Steens Raw 15+ manuka honey)
170g gluten-free oats
50g smooth peanut butter
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4. Line and grease a small, deep baking tin.
2. Melt the butter and manuka honey together over a low heat in a large saucepan. Stir in the oats and peanut butter thoroughly.
3. Transfer the mixture to the baking tin and push down firmly. Bake for 10-20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Remove and leave to cool in the tin.
