The UK’s Best Running Club 2009

Clubs are the lifeblood of running...

They drive the competitive landscape and provide the organisers, officials and marshals that are essential to so many races. They offer an access point to newcomers, and guidance, encouragement and competition to improvers, but importantly they also create a social and sporting hub for the communities they operate within. Without clubs, running as we know it would not exist.

To recognise the achievements of clubs up and down the country, Runner’s World, in partnership with New Balance, is once again searching for the UK’s best running club.

Last year we presented Poole Runners with our inaugural award in celebration of the club’s all-round excellence. Poole Runners is everything a great club should be: accessible to all ages and all abilities; a pillar of the local running and social community; and successful across a range of competitions and age groups.

We want you to help us find the successor to Poole Runners. We are looking for clubs that demonstrate many of the same positive attributes and similar record of success across a wide area of activity. The award is open to all clubs new or old of any size or standard, specialising in any area of running.

The winning club doesn't necessarily have to be the biggest or most successful, although those could be contributory elements. It could also include any of these other factors

  • Playing a pivotal role in the local community, perhaps demonstrated by a commitment to race organisation in the area, training programmes or other social events.

  • An outstanding record of race success in relation to the size of the club.

  • A positive record or attracting beginners and juniors to trial the club then nurturing them through the ranks into regular members.

Running clubs are at the heart of the running community. It is these clubs and those who run them that drive our athletes, young and old, to greater success.

We at New Balance applaud this core community of runners and are proud to support this prestigious award which celebrates the very best the UK and Ireland has to offer.

New Balance have always kept the real runner close to their heart, knowing that the perfect fit will drive performance. In fact this TOTAL FIT is at the heart of what New Balance is all about. Every performance running shoe, New Balance manufactures, has been subjected to an 88 points of fit test, ensuring the optimum fit is achieved.

In addition to this, we understand every runners feet are different, and as a result you need to offer more than a full size and single width to get the ultimate fit. So at New Balance, all our performance running shoes are available in a variety of half sizes and upto 4 widths, ensuring the best fit is achieved everytime.

If that isn't enough, you can buy a pair of New Balance running shoes knowing you are supporting the British economy, because all of our elite running shoes are still made in our factory in Cumbria, by real craftsmen. Put simply, you could be the best in Britain, wearing shoes that are still Made in Britain!!
