Today, Garmin announced HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim, the company’s first underwater heart rate monitors.
HRM-Swim is designed for the pool with a specially designed non-slip strap to keep the monitor in place. Workout data is then stored on the monitor (Garmin claim upto 20 hours worth), and it's then transfered to your device post work out for analysis and scrutiny.
The HRM-Tri is specifically designed for triathletes, capturing heart rate data during every leg of the race. The HRM-Tri features an adjustable strap with soft, rounded edges and covered seams for maximum comfort outside of the water and under a wetsuit, plus it provides advanced running dynamics, including cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time much like their HRM-Run chest strap.
You will need a Forerunner 920XT, fēnix 3 or an epix to experience full compatibility with the HRM-Swim and HRM-Tri, but the HRM-Tri will offer the running dynamics with the Forerunner 920XT, Forerunner 620, fēnix 3, fēnix 2 and epix.
HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim will be available individually for a suggested retail price of £99.99 and £79.99 respectively, or as an accessory bundle for £149.99. A special edition Forerunner 920XT Tri Bundle will apparently be be available, which includes a black/silver Forerunner 920XT, HRM-Tri, HRM-Swim and quick release kit, for a price Garmin are saying will be approximately £449.99.
